On the north coast of Grande Comore lies Mitsamiouli, capital of the Mitsamiouli-Mboudé prefecture. The city is one of the most popular tourist destinations, with many white sandy beaches, the remains of royal palaces from the Sultanate, and a range of accommodation from simple bungalows to four-star hotel complexes. The Mitsamiouli beach is found in the northwest corner of Ngazidja and is considered the most beautiful beach on the island of Grand Comore. It is actually more of a collection of small bays where you can find a quiet spot. Sand and stones make up the beach and the seabed. The town is famous for having excellent diving opportunities.
