Achada Tenda is a town in Cape Verde, on the northern part of the island of Santiago. Near the town is a small bay called Porto Formoso. The beach is beautifully located among the mountains. This tiny stretch of coastline is made up of several bays, with crystal turquoise waters and black sand and pebbles. There are great places for hiking in a mountainous area. Especially along the Ribeira Principal stream is a nice hike. The stream flows entirely within the municipality of São Miguel, has its source in the Serra Malagueta Mountain range, and then flows north through the Principal Valley to the Atlantic Ocean near Achada Tenda. The terrain is not easy, with large gradients, but the route is one of the most beautiful in Cape Verde.
