Boranup Forest

A karri forest remnant area within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and the Western Australian State Forest area. Boranup Forest contains a number of limestone karst caves, including Nannup Cave and Dingo Cave. The Boranup Forest and some other areas around Augusta and Margaret River are the westernmost places where Karri trees grow. The forest is particularly picturesque in the late afternoon golden light. In the spring, white clematis, purple hovea, yellow hibbertia and coral creepers add vibrant color to the cool green of the forest. Karri trees played a key role in the settlement of the area when logging was the main industry. Known for their huge size, straight trunks and hard wood, Karri wood was long shipped overseas, but today much of the Karri Forest is protected and found in National Parks. The karri can grow up to 80 meters tall and is the 3rd tallest tree in the world. In the forest you can see kangaroos, birds and other wildlife, as well as wild flowers in spring.
