Jubbah

Jubbah is located 90 kilometers northwest of the city of Ha'il. It is situated on the old caravan route between the Najd and the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Despite being completely surrounded by the vast Nefud Desert, Jubbah is renowned for its rich agriculture and abundant water. The city's water resources, including natural springs and wells, have been carefully managed to ensure a steady supply of irrigation water. Jubbah sits on an ancient lake bed measuring at least 20 km by 4 km. Its full extent is concealed by wind-swept sand on its northern, southern, and eastern borders. This paradoxical combination of arid surroundings and lush landscape has made Jubbah an oasis of prosperity in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula. The city's unique geography has been shaped by its strategic location, which has facilitated trade and cultural exchange between the East and the West. For centuries, Jubbah served as a vital stopover for merchants and travelers, who would bring exotic goods, and stories from distant lands. This rich cultural heritage is still palpable in the city's architecture, cuisine, and traditions. Jubbah is encircled by vast sandstone outcroppings, which are rich in ancient petroglyphs and carvings on the rock face. Particularly on Jebel Umm Sanman, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other rock art sites in the Ha'il region. Among these rock carvings are depictions of men wearing head coverings, birds, monkeys, gazelles, and two animals that pull a wheeled cart.
