Szászhermány

Hărman is a village in Brasov County. It lies 10 kilometers northeast of the city of Brasov, south of the great bend of the Olt. It was founded by the Saxons during the stay of the Teutonic Knights in Barcovia, probably around 1220, and it was during this period that they began to build its great church. The first documentary record dates back to 1240. In the 15th century, the Turkish threat led to the construction of a church fortress, and in the 16th and 17th centuries the locals survived numerous attacks on the fortified church. Throughout its history, Hărman has been an important cultural and religious center, with its church being a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the Saxon settlers.
