Al Rayyan is Qatar's third-largest municipality, bordering four other municipalities: Umm Salal to the northeast, Al-Shahaniya to the west, Doha to the east, and Al Wakrah to the southeast. It is separated into two sections: the west, which consists of scattered rural communities, farms, and open desert, and the east, which includes the city of Al Rayyan, an urban offshoot of Metropolitan Doha's westward expansion. According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the municipality consists of 223 rawdas, 38 wadis, 24 jeris, six plains, six sabkhas, six capes, and six bays. The MME counted 50 hills, one of the most noteworthy being Jebel Nakhsh, which measures 90 meters tall, and it which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The area's unique topography has given rise to a diverse range of flora and fauna, with many species of plants and animals adapted to the arid desert climate. The municipality's natural resources include significant deposits of limestone, gypsum, and sand, which are exploited for construction and other industrial purposes. In addition to its natural attractions, Al Rayyan is home to a rich cultural heritage, with a history dating back to the 19th century. The municipality is dotted with historic fortifications, mosques, and traditional settlements, which offer a glimpse into the region's storied past. The city of Al Rayyan itself is a hub of commercial and cultural activity, with modern amenities and facilities catering to the needs of its growing population.
