Armacao de Pera

Armação de Pêra is a town and a Portuguese parish located in the municipality of Silves. The village was formerly known as Pêra de Baixo or Lower Pêra, to distinguish it from the current Pêra, which at the time was known as Pêra de Cima or Upper Pêra. This town is a popular tourist center with beautiful beaches, hotels, cafes and restaurants. It lies on a wide bay stretching from Pont da Galé to Senhora da Rocha. The beaches range from Pescadores or Fisherman Beach, to Salomão Beach, Maré Grande and Beijinhos. Since it does not have a harbor, it is one of the last places in the region where fishing boats are launched and returned to the beach. This traditional practice has been maintained, and visitors can still observe the fishermen unloading their daily catch, just as their ancestors did for generations. The town's picturesque alleys, lined with whitewashed houses, also reflect its rich cultural heritage. In addition to its natural beauty and rich history, Armação de Pêra boasts a wide range of amenities and activities, catering to diverse interests and ages. Visitors can engage in water sports, such as surfing, kayaking, or paddleboarding, or simply relax on the beach, soaking up the sun. The town's restaurants offer a delicious array of seafood dishes, as well as traditional Portuguese cuisine, accompanied by fine wines from the Algarve region. For those interested in exploring the local culture, Armação de Pêra has a vibrant market, where visitors can find traditional handicrafts, pottery, and souvenirs. The town also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating its patron saint, Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.
