Lower Dniester National Park

The Lower Dniester National Park, established in April 2022, is not only a state protected area of international importance in the Republic of Moldova but also holds the distinction of being recognized as an international zone No. 1316 under the Ramsar Convention on August 20, 2003. Spanning a total area of 60,638 hectares, the park encompasses 18 natural complexes and is home to a remarkable diversity of plant and animal species. Within the park's boundaries, you can find 83 species of fish, 288 species of birds, 54 species of mammals, and an impressive 950 species of plants. The richness of the reserve's biodiversity is particularly evident in the old Nistru alluvial deposits, including the Blind Dniester, a natural monument stretching approximately 42 kilometers. This area plays a crucial role in supporting various wetland fauna, especially birds. The Lower Dniester National Park boasts several unique ecosystems that are of great ecological significance. Sturdy poplar forests, which are rare in Europe, provide a habitat for numerous species of bats. Ash meadow forests, a pan-European ecosystem, can also be found here. Additionally, the park features high grass meadows, which, despite their relative scarcity in the region, are important ecosystems. The park's diverse natural conditions owe their existence to the meandering river and the heterogeneous nature of the territory. In addition to its stunning landscapes and natural monuments, the park is also home to numerous archaeological and historical sites and wineries.
