Saint Julian's, a town in the Central Region of Malta, is a popular tourist destination known for its vibrant tourism-oriented businesses. Situated on the coast, north of Valletta, the country's capital, Saint Julian's offers a picturesque setting with its stunning sea views. The heart of the town is Paceville, an area bustling with hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs, making it a hub for entertainment and nightlife. The town derives its name from its patron saint, St. Julian, also known as Julian the Hospitaller and Julian the Poor. He is widely revered as the patron saint of hunters, adding to the historical significance of the area. The town's feast is celebrated with a unique competition called ġostra. During this traditional contest, participants climb and run along a greased pole suspended over the sea, striving to reach and grab one of the three flags at the end of the pole. Each flag represents a specific prize, adding excitement and anticipation to the event. In addition to ġostra, another tradition associated with the town's celebration is "Musketterija." This tradition, which originated in 1982, involves hunters firing blank cartridges filled with black powder from the roof of the parish church when the statue of the patron saint is taken out of the church. This tradition pays homage to the historical significance of Saint Julian's, as it was once a hunting ground for the Knights of Malta. These unique traditions and the town's rich history make Saint Julian's a captivating destination for both locals and tourists.
