Antsirabe

Antsirabe is located in central Madagascar, is nestled on the slopes of Tsiafajavona, the country's second highest peak, within the Ankaratra Mountains. The town's favorable position at an altitude of 1,200 meters, combined with thermal springs resulting from ancient volcanic activity, led to the establishment of a health resort in 1923. Antsirabe serves as the endpoint for a railway line originating from Antananarivo, the national capital situated 110 km to the northeast. This strategic location allows the town to cater to the needs of the surrounding region, which is known for its thriving fruit production, including apples and grapes, as well as dairy, pig, and poultry farms. In addition to its agricultural activities, Antsirabe boasts a diverse industrial sector. The town is home to spinning and weaving factories, contributing to the local textile industry. Cigarette manufacturing is another significant industry in Antsirabe, providing employment opportunities for the local population. Furthermore, the town houses food processing facilities, which play a crucial role in preserving and packaging the region's agricultural products. The city is home to a few notable structures from the early 20th century. One such building is the Antsirabe Cathedral, which was constructed in 1911 and stands as a beautiful example of French Gothic architecture. Another prominent landmark is the Antsirabe Grand Market, which was established in 1920 and continues to be a bustling hub of commerce and cultural exchange.
