Ein Bokek is an area of hotels and resorts located on the Israeli shore of the Dead Sea, close to Neve Zohar. There are many archaeological sites in Ein Bokek, among them the ruins of Metzad Bokek, a little Roman-era fortress dominating the main road, as well as the remains of an ancient, semi-restored perfume and medicine manufactory. The Bokek Stream, after which the neighborhood is named, is a canyon-like gorge with springs and unique wildlife. The first hotel in the area opened in 1960, and today there are 14 hotels in the area that offer different types of spa and Dead Sea health treatments. The area is also known for its Zohar Hot Springs. They are located three kilometers south of Ein Bokek. The sulfur-rich water is considered to be particularly beneficial in treating muscle aches, joint disorders and allergies.
