Tehran, the capital and largest city of Iran, has many historic landmarks, including the kings' palaces of Saadabad and Niavaran, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Golestan, the seat of the two previous dynasties of the Iranian Empire. The landmarks of Tehran are the Azadi Tower, a monument built during the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty in 1971 to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire; the Milad Tower, which is the sixth tallest self-supporting tower in the world, completed in 2007; and the Tabiat Bridge, completed in 2014. In addition to these iconic structures, Tehran is also home to numerous museums, galleries, and cultural institutions that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Iran. The National Museum of Iran, for instance, is a treasure trove of artifacts and relics that date back to the ancient Persian. The museum also features exhibits on the history of Tehran, from its early days as a small village to its current status as a bustling metropolis. Tehran is also known for its vibrant arts scene, with numerous galleries and exhibition spaces that feature the works of local and international artists. The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, for example, is one of the largest and most prestigious art museums in the Middle East, with a collection of over 3,000 works of art from around the world. The city's educational institutions are also noteworthy, with the University of Tehran being one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country. The university is renowned for its strong programs in engineering, medicine, and the sciences, and has produced many notable alumni, including several Nobel laureates.
