St David's

The Parish of St. David's is the fourth largest of the parishes of Grenada in the southeastern part of the island. St. David's, located between La Tante and Westerhall, is the parish's capital and largest village. The parish is sometimes called "The Virgin Parish" because St. David's is so small. Spectacular headlands, bays and coves line the eastern coast of the parish. Toward the central mountain ridge, the unspoiled rocky coastline slopes gently, and it is known for its undeveloped countryside and deserted beaches. In the parish of St. David, the town of Megrin was founded in 1609 at St. David's Point. It was destroyed during the Fedon conflict of 1795-96, and the town was never rebuilt. In 1721, the French re-established the Catholic Megrin Parish, although this time on the seafront. Megrin was one of six churches and parishes in Grenada in 1747. The Fedon Rebellion of 1795 was a battle between Fedon and the English troops who stayed overnight in the church. The parish includes the area of Perdmontempts, a mountainous area with many valleys that are rich in fruits such as guava, cherries, plums, mangoes and sugar cane. The parish was also the home of the New Jewel movement, the culmination of which was the March 13, 1979 revolution in Grenada.
