The Grand Etang Lake is a crater lake in an extinct volcano which formed the island of Grenada and hasn't erupted in 12,000 years. It is depicted on Grenada's national emblem. The lake is found in the parish of Saint Andrew, and it is one of the two crater lakes on the island, and is 530 meters above sea level. The other one is the Lake Antoine. The lake is about 6.1 meters deep and 15 hectares in size, and it is said that a mermaid lives in its depths, luring men to their watery graves. Due to the different elevations of the park, it is possible to discover different eco-zones. A trail leads past waterfalls and through jungle around the azure lake. Along the paths one may see tropical birds, small bright chartreuse lizards, various orchids, armadillos and Mona Monkeys. In addition, on the other side of the lake you can see the Mount Qua Qua. The lake is surrounded by the Grand Etang National Park, which is also known as the Grand Etang Forest Reserve. It was established in 1992.
