Batumi

Located in the southwestern part of the country on the Black Sea coast, about 20 kilometers north of the Turkish border, in a subtropical zone at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains, Batumi is the second largest city in Georgia. The economy of Batumi is largely based on tourism and gambling, hence the name "Las Vegas of the Black Sea", but it is also a major port with industries including shipbuilding, food processing and light manufacturing. The city has been undergoing development since 2010. Modern high-rises are being built and classic 19th-century buildings are being restored in the historic Old Town. Aside from the obvious allure of the Black Sea, Batumi also boasts an ancient seaport, unique architecture and European-style squares with amazing statues. The symbol of the city is one of these statues, the Boy with Pipes. It is located in a brick niche of a historical house in Old Batumi. There are so many places of interest to see in the city of Batumi. Among them are the Batumi Square, the Hall of Marriage and Justice, the Alphabetic Tower, the Neptune Fountain, the Medea Statue, the Astronomical Clock, the Batumi Colonnades, the well-known Lighthouse built in 1863, and the fabulous statues of Ali and Nino, and the Rotation.
