Omboué

Omboué is a town in the province of Ogooué-Maritime, located on the shores of the Fernan Vaz lagoon. It is about 589 km from the national capital, Libreville, by road, but about 200 km by air. Fernan Vaz lagoon is named after a Portuguese sailor who discovered it in the 15th century. The area is involved in many conservation projects and is home to the Fernan-Vaz Gorilla Project, which since 2001 has been caring for orphaned gorillas.
