Jinka is a market town in the mountains north of the Tama Plain in southern Ethiopia and the capital of the Debub Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region. The town is sometimes called the "Paris of the South". This has been said because of the presence of some street lamps. Jinka is also the starting point for visits to the Mursi and Ari people. The town is situated at an altitude of 1490 meters and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Moreover, it is a major center for at least 16 indigenous ethnic groups, as well as other peoples from other parts of the country. The German-funded South Omo Museum and Research Center and an airstrip are located in Jinka. And 40 kilometers south of the city is Mago National Park.
