Yellowstone National Park was the US's first national park and is widely considered to be the world's first national park. Established in 1872, it set a precedent for conservation efforts globally, inspiring the protection of natural wonders and unique ecosystems worldwide. Located in the western United States, Yellowstone spans across three states: Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, covering an area of approximately 8,983.18 km2. This vast park is home to an incredible array of geological features, including the iconic Old Faithful geyser, hot springs, and vibrant multicolored thermal pools. The park's unique geology is a result of its location over a volcanic hotspot, where magma from deep beneath the Earth's surface heats up groundwater, creating the park's distinctive hydrothermal features. In addition to its geological wonders, Yellowstone is renowned for its rich biodiversity. The park provides a habitat for an abundance of wildlife, including Grizzly Bears, cougars, wolves, bison, elk, moose, Mule Deer, White-Tailed Deer, Mountain Goat, and Bighorn Sheep among many other species. The park's diverse ecosystems, ranging from lush forests to expansive grasslands, support a wide range of plant life, including coniferous and deciduous trees, wildflowers, and grasses. Yellowstone's cultural significance is also noteworthy, with evidence of human presence dating back over 11,000 years. The park is home to numerous archaeological sites, including petroglyphs, pictographs, and abandoned settlements, which provide valuable insights into the lives of Native American tribes, early European settlers, and other groups that have called the region home.
