The Ghoufi Canyon, also known as "Rhoufi", is a breathtaking site located in Aures, Algeria. The village of Rhoufi belongs to the municipality of T'kout in the province Wilaya of Batna. The canyons of Ghoufi, also known as the balconies of Ghoufi, are one of Algeria's natural wonders. These rock formations are like a veritable centuries-old citadel stretching from Tifelfetl to Kef Laarous. The balconies of the Ghoufi offer unforgettable views of the oasis. Carved into the waterfalls of the cliffs, the natural balconies have attracted people since ancient times because of their mild climate and protection. The first inhabitants of these impressive formations built their homes in the rocks. According to ancient records, these extraordinary houses are almost 4 centuries old and were inhabited until the 1970s. Their setting, surrounded by river banks and palm trees, makes them look more like summer retreats.
